Atheendar Venkataramani (uh-theen-der ven-kat-a-ruh-muh-nee)

Biographical information

Atheendar Venkataramani, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the Perelman School of Medicine and a board-certified general internist at the University of Pennsylvania Presbyterian Medical Center. His research focuses on the life-course origins of health and socioeconomic inequality. His work examines (1) the effect of economic opportunities—and the policies that influence them—on health behaviors and outcomes; (2) the effects of early life interventions on adult health and well-being, and the mechanisms underlying these links; and (3) the role of social policies and structural factors in shaping population health. He directs the Penn Opportunity for Health Lab.

Dr. Venkataramani obtained his PhD in Health Policy (Economics) from Yale University in 2009 and his MD from Washington University in St Louis in 2011. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine-Global Primary Care at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in 2015.
